The EU Consumer Rights Directive grants consumers in the European Union the right to cancel a subscription within 14 days of purchase and receive a refund for any unused portion of service. To comply with this requirement, Mighty Networks provides a clear and accessible cancelation path for all members.

How Cancelation Works

Members can cancel a paid plan at any time by navigating to Plans & Access > Cancel Subscription within their Network. This flow serves as the cancelation mechanism under the Directive and is available on the web. For purchases made through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, cancelation is handled directly by Apple and Google in accordance with their own compliance obligations.

Automated Email

The Directive requires that consumers receive an email confirmation of their cancelation. There are 2 ways to set this up:

With the Mighty + Zapier Integration

If you’ve connected your Mighty Network via our Zapier integration, follow these steps:
  1. Create a new Zap and select Mighty Networks as the trigger app.
  2. Select the trigger Canceled Subscription to Plan. This fires immediately when a member cancels — so the confirmation sends without waiting for the billing period to end.
  3. Connect your Mighty Network account. If you’re connecting for the first time, you’ll need your API key.
  4. Select the specific plan (or plans) this should apply to, or leave it blank to cover any plan.
  5. Add an action step using your email tool of choice (Gmail, Outlook, or Kit) and select the Send Email action.
  6. Map the member’s email address from the trigger data into the To field, then write your cancelation confirmation message in the body.
  7. Test the Zap, then turn it on.

Without the Mighty + Zapier Integration

  1. Create a new Zap in Zapier and select Stripe as the trigger app.
  2. Select the trigger Updated Subscription.
  3. Connect your Stripe account.
  4. Add a Filter by Zapier action step.
  5. Set Only continue if… and map the Stripe field Cancel At Exists AND Previous Attributes Canceled At does not exist. This ensures only cancelation events trigger the Zap.
  6. Add an action step using your email tool of choice (Gmail, Outlook, or Kit) and select the Send Email action.
  7. Map the member’s email address from the Stripe data into the To field, then write your cancelation confirmation message in the body.
  8. Test the Zap, then turn it on.
Important: This Zap covers cancelations made through Mighty Networks (web and mobile web). Subscriptions purchased through the iOS App Store are managed and canceled in Apple’s settings, so this trigger may not capture those cancelations.

Refunds Within the Withdrawal Window

If a member cancels within 14 days of purchasing a paid plan, they’re entitled to a pro-rated refund for the unused portion of their subscription. If you have any questions, reach out to our team at help@mightynetworks.com.
