What Is Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)?
MFA adds a second step to the sign-in process. After entering a password, members are asked to enter a code from an authenticator app. It’s one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect accounts. How to Turn On MFA
- Go to Admin > Members > Authentication and Verification.
- Toggle Enable Multi-Factor Authentication on.
-
Choose who MFA is required for:
- Not required for anyone (default)
- Required for Hosts only
- Required for Hosts and moderators
- Required for everyone
- Click Save.
How MFA Works
MFA applies only to members who log in using an email and password. A few important details:- Members using Single Sign-On (SSO) will not be prompted to set up MFA. Networks using SSO won’t see MFA settings at all.
- MFA is compatible with social sign-on options like Google, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
- Members on an outdated mobile app will need to update before setting up MFA.
- When MFA is turned on, affected members will be logged out immediately, even if they’re in the middle of an action such as posting or joining a livestream.
What Members Will See
When prompted to set up MFA, members will:- Open an authenticator app (we recommend 1Password, but Google Authenticator, Authy, and others work too).
- Scan the QR code or copy and paste the key into the app.
- Enter the 6-digit code from the app back into Mighty Networks.
How to Turn Off MFA
To disable MFA for your Network:- Go to Admin > Members > Multi-Factor Authentication.
- Select Not required for anyone.
- Click **Save.**
How to Reset MFA for an Account
If someone needs to reset their MFA:- Go to Personal Settings > Account > Multi-Factor Authentication.
- Select Reset Authentication and Log Out.
- They’ll be guided through setup again during their next login.
Troubleshooting MFA
If the code isn’t working:- Confirm the code matches what’s shown in the authenticator app.
- Remember, codes refresh every few seconds—try a new one.
- Make sure you’re using the correct code for your Mighty Networks account.
- Reinstall your authenticator app.
- Log back into the app with your credentials.
- If you can’t restore access, follow the app’s recovery instructions. What is Email Verification?
