# How Do I Enable Multi-Factor Authentication and Email Verification?

You can add extra security to your Mighty Network by turning on **Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)** and/or **Email Verification** for members. Both are optional but recommended.

## What Is Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)?

MFA adds a second step to the sign-in process. After entering a password, members are asked to enter a code from an authenticator app. It’s one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect accounts.

## How to Turn On MFA

1. Go to **Admin > Members > Member Settings > Multi-Factor Authentication.**
2. Toggle **Enable Multi-Factor Authentication** on.
3. Choose who MFA is required for:
   * **Not required for anyone** (default)
   * **Required for Hosts only**
   * **Required for Hosts and moderators**
   * **Required for everyone**
4. Click Save.

Once saved, anyone included in your selection will be logged out and prompted to set up MFA during their next sign-in.

## How MFA Works

MFA applies only to members who log in using an email and password.

A few important details:

* Members using **Single Sign-On (SSO)** will not be prompted to set up MFA. Networks using SSO won’t see MFA settings at all.
* MFA is compatible with **social sign-on** options like Google, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
* Members on an **outdated mobile app** will need to update before setting up MFA.
* When MFA is turned on, affected members will be logged out immediately, even if they’re in the middle of an action such as posting or joining a livestream.

## What Members Will See

When prompted to set up MFA, members will:

1. Open an authenticator app (we recommend **1Password**, but **Google Authenticator**, **Authy**, and others work too).
2. Scan the QR code or copy and paste the key into the app.
3. Enter the 6-digit code from the app back into Mighty Networks.

That’s it—MFA setup will be complete.

## How to Turn Off MFA

To disable MFA for your Network:

1. Go to **Admin > Members > Member Settings > Multi-Factor Authentication.**
2. Select **Not required for anyone.**
3. Click Save.

## How to Reset MFA for an Account

If someone needs to reset their MFA:

1. Go to **Personal Settings > Account > Multi-Factor Authentication.**
2. Select **Reset Authentication and Log Out.**
3. They’ll be guided through setup again during their next login.

## Troubleshooting MFA

**If the code isn’t working:**

* Confirm the code matches what’s shown in the authenticator app.
* Remember, codes refresh every few seconds—try a new one.
* Make sure you’re using the correct code for your Mighty Networks account.

**If you got a new phone or device:**

* Reinstall your authenticator app.
* Log back into the app with your credentials.
* If you can’t restore access, follow the app’s recovery instructions.

## What Is Email Verification?

## How to Turn On Email Verification

1. Go to **Admin > Members > Member Settings > Email Verification.**
2. Toggle the feature on.

When enabled:

* Every new member must verify their email before their account is created.
* Existing members can verify their email anytime by going to **Personal Settings > Account > Email and Password.**

After signing up, new members will see a screen prompting them to check their email and enter a verification code.

If you toggle this feature off, the verification prompt still appears but includes an option to skip.
