# How Do Hashtags Work in My Mighty Network?

You can add hashtags to [**Posts**](https://docs.mightynetworks.com/for-hosts/content-and-messaging/how-do-i-create-a-post-in-my-mighty-network), [**Chat messages**](https://docs.mightynetworks.com/for-hosts/content-and-messaging/how-does-chat-work-in-a-mighty-network), [**Articles**](https://docs.mightynetworks.com/for-hosts/content-and-messaging/how-do-i-create-an-article-in-my-mighty-network), comments, [**Lessons and Sections**](https://docs.mightynetworks.com/for-hosts/courses/how-do-i-organize-my-course-with-overviews-sections-and-lessons), [**Events**](https://docs.mightynetworks.com/for-hosts/events-and-livestream/how-do-i-create-events-in-my-mighty-network), and [**Questions & Polls**](https://docs.mightynetworks.com/for-hosts/content-and-messaging/how-do-i-create-polls-questions-in-my-mighty-network) on web or mobile.

To add one, type a **#** followed by text—just like on other platforms. You can include multiple hashtags in the same piece of content.

## Hashtag Basics

Hashtags can include letters, numbers, or underscores. They can’t include other special characters (like **&** or **\$**) or extra spaces.

As you type, you’ll see a dropdown showing existing hashtags. Continue typing to create a new one.

The color of your hashtag will match your [**Space branding**](https://docs.mightynetworks.com/for-hosts/setting-up-your-network/how-do-i-set-up-my-space-branding).

## Highlighted Hashtags

**Hosts** can highlight up to **100 hashtags** in each Space.

The first 10 appear in the search dropdown; the rest appear under **See All**.

When someone searches or types a hashtag in a Space, the list of highlighted hashtags will appear automatically.

**To highlight a hashtag:**

1. Click the hashtag to view its search results.
2. Select **Highlight**.
3. Choose one or more Spaces where you want it highlighted.

Highlighted hashtags appear:

* In the dropdown when you click the search bar at the top of a Space
* In the **right-hand column** of the [**Feed**](https://docs.mightynetworks.com/for-hosts/setting-up-your-network/what-is-the-feed-and-how-does-it-work) (if the Feed is enabled)

To turn this off, go to **Space Admin > Space Features > Feed**, then toggle off **Display Highlighted Hashtags**.

## Visibility and Access

If a member has access to the **Space** where content lives, that hashtag will appear in their dropdown as an option.

If they don’t have access, it won’t appear.

When someone clicks a hashtag, they’ll see search results for all content across the **Mighty Network** that includes it, sorted by relevance.

If a member doesn’t have access to a Space where tagged content appears, that content will not show in their results.

Members can see hashtagged content in [**Spaces that are visible to anyone**](https://docs.mightynetworks.com/for-hosts/setting-up-your-network/how-do-i-set-the-privacy-settings-for-a-space).

To view all results for a hashtag across every Space:

1. Click **Search** in a Space.
2. Click the highlighted hashtag.
3. At the top of the results, de-select the Space filter to **Search All Spaces**.

**Note:** Search results include **Posts** and **Articles** with hashtags. They don’t include messages in **Chat Spaces** or **Private Chats**.

You can’t edit hashtags yet, but deleting a hashtag from a piece of content removes it from the system.

You can also sort hashtag results by **Top**, **Newest**, or **Oldest**.

## Hashtag Prompt

When creating **Posts**, **Articles**, or comments on web (and on iOS or Android for Posts), you’ll see a prompt to add a hashtag.

Click the prompt to insert a **#** where your cursor is. As you type, a dropdown will appear showing hashtags— including any **highlighted hashtags** in that Space.

## Hashtag List

To display a list of highlighted hashtags in a Space:

1. Go to the **gear icon > Space Features > Hashtag List**.
2. Toggle the feature on.
3. Rename it to anything you like—your custom name appears in the right-hand column (for example, “Hashtabs”).

This feature appears on web and mobile alongside other Space features like **Chat** and **Discovery**.

Clicking it shows a full list of highlighted hashtags in that Space.

**Important:** The **Feed** feature must be enabled for the Hashtag List to display.

To manage your highlighted hashtags, go to **gear icon > Content Highlights > Highlighted Hashtags**. From there, you can **drag and drop** to reorder or create a new highlighted hashtag.

## Suggested Hashtags (AI Feature)

**Suggested Hashtags** is an AI-powered feature available on [**Launch plans**](https://docs.mightynetworks.com/for-hosts/meet-mighty/whats-included-in-the-mighty-networks-courses-plan) and up. Suggestions appear in **Posts**, **Articles**, and more—especially in Spaces without highlighted hashtags.Suggested hashtags appear with a **sparkle icon**.
